Warning: Spoilers for “Mockingjay – Part 2″ ahead.
It’s really hard to get things done when one hand is occupied doing Panem’s three-fingered salute and the other is busy wiping away the tears induced by the just-released first “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2″ trailer, but we’re doing what we can.
While we wait for the goosebumps to die down (JK, they never will), let’s obsess a little (a lot) over what we just saw.
Here are 12 HUGE moments from the first trailer for “Mockingjay – Part 2.”
1. Finnick and Annie get married.
There are so many things at play here, we can’t even. First of all, eternal love. There’s that. Annie and Finnick have been through a lot and have found their way back to each other, and now they finally get to have a big party to make that official. Second, this is a useful PR and morale boost for District 13, which traditionally eschews big weddings and fancy outfits. (Which explains the guests’ jumpsuit chic couture.) One thing that remains to be seen, however, is Peeta’s therapeutic wedding cake. Hey, frosting eases our churning minds too.
2. Katniss can’t make any more speeches.
As she dons her final (badass) Mockingjay armor under Effie’s supervision, Katniss makes a sweeping declaration: no more speeches. It’s time for action. Squad 451, the group Katniss is a part of, is ready to storm the Capitol and finish the whole thing.
3. “Snow has to pay for what he’s done.”
A big book moment that was missing from the first “Mockingjay” movie, we assume this is the part where “I kill Snow” is added to Katniss’ list of demands if she is to continue acting as the Mockingjay. As director Francis Lawrence told MTV News during interviews for “Mockingjay – Part 1″ last year, “there will definitely be that line at some point in these movies.” Chills! My spine!
4. Snow evils out.
If you want to look like a legit baddie, drink wine, have parties and laugh and laugh while people die on your doorstep. President Snow (Donald Sutherland) clearly read that part of the villain manual thoroughly.
5. Prim and Katniss have a sisterly moment.
I just…does anyone have a tissue?
6. Katniss leads the march on the Capitol.
All we can say is #unite.
7. Katniss prepares to take her shot.
Is this it? Is this the arrow we’ve all been waiting for? We’d be more specific, but spoiler city. Suffice to say: !!!
8. Katniss and Peeta hug it out.
We left Peetniss on shaky ground, what with Peeta’s brain having been hijacked and reprogrammed to make him think he wants to murder Katniss and all. That’ll throw a wrench in any relationship. So this moment where Katniss and Peeta (poor, bummed-out Peeta) hug, is really nice. If there had been a “real or not real” in here, it probably would have broken us.
9. Gale’s…around.
#TeamPeeta.
10. Katniss and Gale are under fire.
Literally. There’s been no lack of warfare and violence in the “Hunger Games” franchise, but the action really appears to ramp up in the final installment as Squad 451 fight their way through the Capitol on the way to their ultimate goal: President Snow’s mansion.
11. Squad 451 gets chased by flesh-eating goo.
Whatever you do, don’t let the wave catch you. This is the biggest of the Capitol’s booby traps we’ve gotten a look at, and man does it look cool, not to mention deadly.
12. “Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the 76th Hunger Games.”
Did we mention chills? Because chills. Chills forever.
Is it November 20 yet? How about now?
